This social empowerment volunteer project with girls in Peru provides the necessary support and accompaniment to mothers in the preparation of food (lunch) in the peri-urban area of the city. Food is provided to the population living around the community, at low cost and in some cases free of charge (social cases).

The beneficiaries of the volunteer empowerment with girls is around 90 people including pregnant mothers, children, older adults, abandoned mothers and people with disabilities.

OBJECTIVE

  • Empower girls, young women and women from rural communities and rural areas in Cusco, as they are usually women in vulnerable situations.

WHAT WILL I DO IN EMPOWERMENT VOLUNTEERING WITH GIRLS IN PERU?

In the girls’ empowerment volunteering programme you can organise with the women who are part of the volunteering project, days of:

  • Support in food preparation
  • Cultural exchange
  • Cooking workshops
  • Accompanying women to markets
  • Help with small animal husbandry
  • Support in food gardens
  • Talks on gender equality, personal and household hygiene and cleanliness, nutrition and good nutrition to the beneficiaries at lunchtime.
  • Line up and distribute rations respecting biosecurity protocols.
  • Clean the canteen premises at the end of daily activities.

In empowerment volunteering with girls, you can also organise school tutoring classes, where girls and women and people from these communities can learn about:

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Singing
  • Painting
  • Teaching Spanish

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BE A GIRL EMPOWERMENT VOLUNTEER?

In the empowerment volunteering with girls in Peru it is not necessary to have experience in community work or to be a social worker, as you will always be accompanied by the person in charge of the women’s empowerment project in Cusco, who will guide you at all times. We will ask you:

  • Teamwork
  • Flexibility
  • Motivation and positivity
  • Adapt to the culture
  • 18 years and older

It is mandatory that you submit the following documents when applying to volunteer in Peru:

  • Copy of your passport
  • Curriculum and/or motivation on the extended form.
  • Criminal record

The attire required to participate in the volunteer project with rural women and girls should be as follows:

  • Long trousers, not tight-fitting
  • A windbreaker (Cusco is cold)
  • Trekking shoes (comfortable) or normal trainers

In case you have tattoos or piercings, you should cover them, remember that the culture and customs of Latin American countries are different from those of the West.


WHEN CAN I PARTICIPATE IN EMPOWERMENT VOLUNTEERING WITH GIRLS?

ARRIVALS

  • The project is open all year round.
  • You must arrive on a Saturday where we will pick you up free of charge.

TIMETABLE AND MEETING POINT

  • You should arrive at Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ), where you will be picked up by the local project coordinator.
  • Scheduled time for arrivals is from 8:00 to 21:00 hours.

WHAT WILL MY SCHEDULE BE FOR VOLUNTEERING WITH GIRLS’ EMPOWERMENT?

  • We collaborate from Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
  • The project is located in the community of Inti Rainy, 35 minutes by bus from the volunteer’s home.
