English teaching in Costa Rica

voluntariado enseñanza del idioma inglés

The volunteer program in Costa Rica in English language teaching will allow you to transmit your knowledge to the young people. You don’t need to be a teacher or language expert to teach, just knowing how to speak and write it can pass on your knowledge to our children. The children will welcome you with open arms and the best of their smiles.

The number of children attending English classes is between 7 and 12 years old. In some cases the volunteer will be a teacher’s assistant and will sometimes teach the class. Please note that children of this age have a very low level of English.

You will also teach young people between the ages of 13 and 18. Please note that many students are discouraged from speaking English in class, as their level is low. As a volunteer, in addition to supporting the teacher, we lead conversation groups among students and community members who need to improve their English fluency.

One of the main objectives of the English language teaching project is to help children and young people learn a second language and in some cases to improve their English language skills in some people in the community.

The English language teaching project is located in downtown San Ramon.  From your host family’s home it is easy to get to the project.

YOUR ROLE AS A VOLUNTEER

Your main role is to assist and support the teacher and teacher in English classes.  Additional support in cultural exchange classes.  Usually the volunteer participates in the following activities:

  • Teach English classes, where you will have to create dynamic and educational activities that facilitate the learning of children and young people.
  • Assist the English teacher in the classes.
  • Lead conversation groups or groups of local people who want to improve their English fluency.
  • Organize English classes, in this activity you will be supported by the local coordinator.

KEEP IN MIND

You do not need to have a TESOL / TEFL certification to teach English. We look to volunteers for the ability to transmit their knowledge in the English language, to improve the writing and communication skills of our students.

What is important is that your level of English is advanced.  The level of Spanish required is basic.
