Medical support in in the south of Senegal

What is this program about?

This health program is different from the rest, since having so few resources in this community, it is the volunteer who brings ideas, workshops, activities, new methods and initiatives to create projects.

The volunteer must be a person trained in the health field with experience, since their role is very proactive. It should be the one in charge of leading and carrying out workshops, health activities. The health role consists of taking command and leading certain activities, supporting the needs of both lack of information and coordinating tasks, delivering materials and medicines, etc.

How is the day to day and what will I do as a volunteer?

The day to day of the volunteer consists of a collaboration from Monday to Friday.

A typical volunteer day begins with breakfast at the accommodation with all the volunteers. At the end, the volunteers go to the project, where they meet with the local coordinator to organize the activities planned for the day.

Throughout the morning each volunteer contributes to the assigned tasks. A stop is made for lunch and, depending on the needs, they continue with the tasks or have free time.

The volunteer can visit nearby areas in his spare time. In the evening, the group has dinner and prepares for the next day.

Some of the activities that you will carry out during your volunteering are:

  • Medical triage.
  • Dispense medicines.
  • Cures.
  • primary care.
  • Vaccination.

Depending on the area where you choose you can also perform:

  • Assisting with deliveries.
  • Assisting in the preparation and maintenance of patient rooms.
  • Educating the local population on disease prevention.

Requirements to participate

  • Be over 18 years old (except if you are traveling with your parents).
  • Cover the cost of the program according to weeks.
  • Have a mandatory travel insurance.
  • Respect cultures and religions.
  • Not have a criminal record.
  • Be proactive.
  • Follow the rules of local accommodation and projects.
  • Have an entry and exit ticket to the country in allowed tourist time.
  • Have a valid passport with more than 6 months.
  • Certificate of sexual crimes.
  • Health training with experience.
  • Intermediate English.

Where will I be and when do I have to arrive?

Where will the accommodation be?

The airport you need to get to will be communicated to you according to the area you choose to volunteer in. We will tell you if you need to take an internal flight or which airport to arrive at. You should arrive on Fridays or Saturdays.

Once you arrive you will stay in the volunteer’s house, it is a charming town and a very pleasant community.

The volunteer’s house has rooms that you will share with other volunteers, you will also share the bathrooms (flush toilets and tank showers)  and common areas. The house has Wi-Fi (sometimes there may not be) and has bedding and towers for each volunteer.

Dates and method of arrival

The project is open throughout the year. It is advisable to arrive during Friday or Saturday, since the project starts every Monday where your presentation will take place.

How long can I go?

You can be in the project from 2 weeks up to 12 weeks.

To sign up is very simple, you only have to follow 5 very important steps, the first thing is once you have read everything that is included and not included and the costs that you have in the country tab.

  2. You receive an official confirmation of place.
  3. Make a 1st contribution of enrollment to the program.
  4. You make a video call with the coordinator to better prepare your arrival.
  5. Sign the international volunteer agreement and complete the rest of the financial contribution as indicated by your coordinator.

PINK LAKE
