Music school in Tortuguero, Costa Rica

What is this program about?

Costa Rica is a country where you can meet nature, get to know its culture and live that experience that you have always sought through volunteering in Costa Rica.

In this project you will be able to enjoy a beautiful area while you teach and enjoy with the children of the community. You will be surrounded by fauna and flora and a very friendly community that will make you feel at home.

In this project musical activities are carried out, with the aim of developing the artistic and creative abilities of these children. It is very important to make them see how important these skills are too. In addition, they want to create a musical group for children to enjoy and develop while they learn.

How is the day to day and what will I do as a volunteer?

The day to day of the volunteer consists of a collaboration from Monday to Friday.

A typical volunteer day starts with breakfast at the hostel with all the volunteers. At the end, the volunteers meet with the local coordinator to organize the activities planned for the day. Being located 5 minutes from the project, the volunteers walk.

Throughout the morning each volunteer contributes to the assigned tasks. A stop is made for lunch and, depending on the needs, they continue with the tasks or have free time.

The volunteer can visit nearby areas in his spare time. At night the volunteer has free time for dinner, etc.

The general activities that you will carry out during your volunteering are:

  • Bongo drums, congas.
  • Trumpet, saxophone.
  • Quijongo from Limón
  • Singing lessons.
  • Sol-fa.

Requirements to participate

  • Be over 18 years old (except if you are traveling with your parents).
  • Cover the cost of the program according to weeks.
  • Have a mandatory travel insurance.
  • Respect cultures and religions.
  • Not have a criminal record.
  • Be proactive.
  • Follow the rules of local accommodation and projects.
  • Have an entry and exit ticket to the country in allowed tourist time.
  • Have a valid passport with more than 6 months.

Where will I be and when do I have to arrive?

Where will the accommodation be?

The airport you must arrive at is the Juan Santamaría International Airport, in Costa Rica. You must arrive on your own with the indications of the local coordinator to the Tortuguero dock and they will pick you up there.  

Once you arrive you will stay at the hostel for volunteers, located in Tortuguero, it is a 5-minute walk from the same project.

The hostel has rooms that you will share with other volunteers, you will also share the bathrooms and common areas. The house has Wi-Fi and has bedding for each volunteer.

Dates and method of arrival

The project is open throughout the year. It is advisable to arrive during the weekend, since the project starts every Monday where your presentation will take place. 

You must arrive on your own to Tortuguero, where you will be picked up at the pier.

How long can I go?

You can be in the project from 2 weeks to 12 weeks.  

How do I sign up?

To sign up is very simple, you only have to follow 5 very important steps, the first thing is once you have read everything that is included and not included and the costs that you have in the country tab.

  1. Fill out this form with the dates you want.
  2. You receive an official confirmation of place.
  3. Make a 1st contribution of enrollment to the program.
  4. You make a video call with the coordinator to better prepare your arrival.
  5. Sign the international volunteer agreement and complete the rest of the financial contribution as indicated by your coordinator.


What can I see during the weekend?

Costa Rica is a country with a great biodiversity of flora and fauna. It borders the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. It has well-known provinces and unique characteristics such as:

  • Puntarenas.
  • Guanacaste.
  • And its capital San José.

In these places you can find a wide range of activities that include:

  • Tours to natural parks.
  • Volcano climbing.
  • Sighting of sea turtles.
  • Being surrounded by nature.
