What is this program about?

Costa Rica is a country where you can meet nature, get to know its culture and live that experience that you have always sought through volunteering in Costa Rica.

In this project you can enjoy a protected area. You will be surrounded by fauna and flora and you will experience the wonders of nature.

The volunteer performs tasks such as: composting, caring for the nursery, cleaning trails for ecotourism, night and day monitoring of animals by kayak or walking, using cameras or taking data, mist nets, sand casting in search of plastic waste, environmental education with children from the community, tagging with the turtles, reforestation of the vegetation line between the community and the beach for the nesting of sea turtles (this provides corridors of vegetation, helps the turtle not to be dazzled by light and also acts as a barrier), sterilization days with dogs to avoid zoonoses, live work with sea turtles patrolling and controlling excessive tourism, and monitoring the behavior of the Jaguar, among others.

How is the day to day and what will I do as a volunteer?

The day to day of the volunteer consists of a collaboration from Monday to Friday.

A typical volunteer day begins with breakfast at the accommodation with all the volunteers. At the end, the volunteers meet with the local coordinator to organize the activities planned for the day. As they are located in the same project, they should not make long journeys.

Throughout the morning each volunteer contributes to the assigned tasks. A stop is made for lunch and, depending on the needs, they continue with the tasks or have free time.

The volunteer can visit nearby areas in his spare time. At night, if there is any assigned task, it is done, plus the group has dinner and prepares for the next day.

The general activities that you will carry out during your volunteering are:

  • Environmental education with children.
