Support on farms and orchards in Guatemala

Through the farm, students have the opportunity to learn about agriculture, farm animals, and ornamental plant production.The farm offers students experiential learning opportunities and hands-on environmental education.

What is this program about?

Volunteers are welcome to participate in agriculture classes, working in the garden, assisting with the production of organic fertilizers and lending a hand to our teachers to implement the environmental education curriculum.

It is important that the volunteer is aware that through agriculture and the farm they teach values, social skills, ways of thinking, etc.

Some of the activities that you will carry out are:

  • Plant vegetables and ornamental plants.
  • Help students in sowing, watering, fertilizing and spraying activities of plants.
  • Construction of orchards and modification of infrastructure for nurseries.

How is the day to day and what will I do as a volunteer?

The day to day of the volunteer consists of a collaboration from Monday to Friday, approximately 4 or 5 hours, distributed during the morning and afternoon, according to needs. There are two shifts. The volunteer together with the coordinator decides what he is going to do.

A typical volunteer day begins with breakfast at the accommodation. At the end, the volunteers meet with the local coordinator to organize the activities planned for the day in the project. The volunteer, depending on the location of the house, will go by bus or on foot.

Throughout the morning each volunteer contributes to the assigned tasks. A stop is made for lunch and, depending on the needs, they continue with the tasks or have free time.

The volunteer can visit nearby areas in his free time. At night the group has dinner and prepares for the next day.

Requirements to participate

  • Be over 18 years old (except if you are traveling with your parents).
  • Cover the cost of the program according to weeks.
  • Have a mandatory travel insurance.
  • Respect cultures and religions.
  • Not have a criminal record.
  • Be proactive.
  • Follow the rules of local accommodation and projects.
  • Have an entry and exit ticket to the country in allowed tourist time.
  • Have a valid passport with more than 6 months.
  • CV and certificate of sexual crimes.
  • Spanish Language.

Where will I be and when do I have to arrive?

Where will the accommodation be?

The accommodation is in family homes, there are several locations, depending on the date the volunteer comes and the availability, they will be told which is the assigned area. They are houses selected by the coordination, with rooms shared with the rest of the volunteers, with Wi-Fi, bedding and hot water.

Dates and method of arrival

The program is locatedOpen all year, in November and December you will not be with children due to the vacation period. The schedule is from Monday to Friday in school reinforcement from: 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. You will speak with the local coordinator to decide the shift you want, also attending to the needs.

It is advisable to arrive during the weekend, in order to be picked up at the airport, the airport you must arrive at isGuatemala City (GUA).

How long can I go?

You can be in the project from 2 weeks up to 12 weeks.

  3. Make a 1st contribution of enrollment to the program.
