Volunteering in teaching children of different abilities

volunteer program in teaching with children of different abilities

“Your support makes a big difference to the development of our children’s abilities and potential.”

There are many realities and challenges that are often overlooked in countries like the Dominican Republic.  Therefore, volunteering in teaching children of different abilities doesn’t only give you the opportunity to get involved.  It also allows you to broaden your perspective when working with children, young people and adults, many of whom often face the harsh reality of the world.

One of the main objectives of the volunteer program of teaching children of different abilities is to enhance the skills and abilities of the children and young people with special needs. With the help and support of volunteers and local staff, we seek to provide the necessary tools so that they can have a better quality of life. Many families don’t have the adequate resources to provide these children with educational and medical attention, which is why through this program therapeutic interventions are implemented.

If you decide to participate in the volunteer program of teaching children of different abilities, you will be able to see your positive impact on the children, youth and adults with whom you work.

ACTIVITIES TO BE CARRIED OUT

The children and young people in schools often have a variety of developmental challenges.  The centers that provide care for many families are very expensive.  Therefore, with your skills and knowledge, children and young people can receive the care they need.

The activities, that volunteers carry to support the teaching program for children of different abilities, are the following:

  • Helping the school personnel with didactic and educational activities.
  • Assisting at the therapies for children and young adults with special needs.
  • Helping with special events and outings.
  • Carrying out trainings and talks for community members of all ages.
  • Taking part in the process of maintenance and restoration of the centre.
  • Assisting teachers with projects and activities aimed at children and young people with special needs.
  • Supporting swimming lessons, sailing lessons and first aid for students aged 10 to 16.
  • Accompanying our social workers who work on the social development of young people, families and local communities.
