Teaching program in the Dominican Republic

refuerzo escolar republica dominicana

Volunteer, teach children and share your knowledge and skills all at the same time!

The program gives volunteers the opportunity to help children and young people to improve their lives through the development of their academic skills and potential.

Education anywhere in the world is fundamental for our children and even more so while they are growing up. In the teaching volunteer program in the Dominican Republic, volunteers and local staff of the organization provide the children with necessary tools for their educational development.

We must bear in mind that teaching abroad is a way to improve our skills, as well. It’s a very practical way to see the world. Immersing ourselves in a country different from ours and experiencing new things from another perspective allows us to become more open-minded and understanding. It’s a great opportunity to learn, as well as to enrich our personal and professional lives.

Through the teaching volunteer program in the Dominican Republic, we seek to teach the matters of leadership, communication, healthy lifestyle and constructive use of free time to young people, families and vulnerable communities.

We constantly adapt our activities to the needs of the community, for this reason any proposal for new creative activities that the volunteers might have are very welcome.  However, you will be asked to participate in a combination of activities that require working in direct contact with our children and youth. Our volunteers tend to take part in the following activities:

  • Support during recreational activities at schools.
  • Organization of intercultural events and regular local community meetings to encourage exchange and integration.
  • Support in classes of English or of other languages, depending on the volunteer’s level of proficiency.
  • Participation and support in computer classes.
  • Participation in weekly meetings with other volunteers and staff to create and organize weekly schooling plans and educational projects.
  • Help with maintenance and restoration of educational centres.
  • Accompanying social workers who work with children and young people.
  • Help with community activities when support is needed.

Volunteers regularly work with children between 5 and 12 years of age. All volunteers who participate in the teaching volunteer program in the Dominican Republic carry out activities and programs and also implement activities created by volunteers themselves, according to the needs of the children who attend the center.
