Youth Empowerment Volunteering in Nepal

Empowerment volunteer programmes with young people

Nepal is a country rich in traditions that are reflected in its cultural richness. Even if you make a short trip, it will give you the opportunity to observe the difference in the lives of many young people in these communities of scarce resources but rich in values, love and affection.

The Youth Empowerment Volunteer Programme in Nepal was created with all these young people in mind, who often have only one chance to get ahead, which can be frustrated by the conditions of poverty, violence and economic situation. Therefore, we need volunteers who wish to dedicate their time during their holidays, sabbatical year or why not, long stay trips and be part of this volunteering experience, which is not only a volunteering, it is also a work experience that allows you to develop and enhance your skills and most importantly enrich you on a personal level.

As a volunteer and part of the youth empowerment volunteering programme, in the mornings you will focus on community work with young people. Many of the classes or talks take place in libraries or spaces adapted for the activities. During this time you will be involved in renovating, decorating and adapting these spaces. Resources are limited, so all the support you can give in terms of time, material and ideas for educational, didactic and sports activities are welcome.

  • You can arrive any day of the week, however we recommend that you arrive on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, as it makes it easier to join the project.

TIME AND PLACE OF ARRIVAL

  • You should arrive at Kathmandu Airport (KTM), where you will be picked up by the assigned local coordinator.
  • Scheduled arrival times at the airport are from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm.

WHAT WILL BE THE TIMETABLE IN YOUTH EMPOWERMENT VOLUNTEERING?

The youth empowerment volunteer programme is based in Kathmandu. The volunteer support runs from Monday to Friday. You are expected to work 3 or 4 hours a day during your stay in the volunteer programme.

The volunteer’s day-to-day work usually starts with orientation and induction to the project. This takes place on the first day of your arrival to volunteer in Nepal, where you meet the rest of the volunteers and learn about the customs of Nepal.

WHAT IS ACCOMMODATION LIKE IN EMPOWERMENT VOLUNTEERING?

During your participation in the Youth Empowerment Volunteer Programme, you will stay with a Nepalese host family. The selected host families are close to the project location, are very welcoming and you can create long-lasting relationships.

During the project you will receive two main meals a day (breakfast and dinner). The meals will be authentic Nepalese. Volunteers are treated as a member of the family and are free to cook very often. It depends on your attitude and cooperation.
