DOG AND CAT RESCUE CENTER IN BILBAO

If you are an animal lover and animal abuse seems very unfair to you, this program gives you the opportunity to help dogs and cats and hopefully give them a better life.

This volunteer project is located on the northern coast of Bilbao. Here, you will have plenty of scenery in Bilbao while you can help with all kinds of tasks.

  • Take them out for a walk and generate love
  • Animal awareness
  • Distribute food to abandoned animals
  • Support with the sterilization days
  • Help with the collection of funds and the center’s website
  • Cleaning their rooms

REQUIREMENTS FOR YOUR VOLUNTEERING IN BILBAO?

  • You must pass an interview in order to volunteering in Bilbao.
  • Present a certificate of criminal record for social work.
  • Volunteers must be tolerant, enthusiastic and have an open mind.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment.

HOW TO BE A VOLUNTEER IN BILBAO?

Included in your volunteer program are two weeks of Spanish courses, 20 hours per week. It is very important to know not only the Spanish language, but also the culture and why things are done the way they are. A course accredited by the Cervantes Institute will validate you wherever you go.

If when you finish your Spanish course, you need more hours of learning, you can create an extension of the courses that are held via Skype.

You will be able to choose a wide variety of courses, according to your needs, where the Spanish classes take place from Monday to Friday between 9:30am and 1:30pm

The courses start every Monday and we guarantee courses of 6 levels from A1 to C2. If you would like to continue, you can include the afternoons where we guarantee four levels from A1 to B2.

We also offer free leisure activities so that you can practice your Spanish level with the rest of your classmates and local staff in Bilbao:

  • Movies and sports
  • Cultural visits

You will also have the opportunity to go out with native Spanish people, both part of the volunteer staff and the Spanish Institute.


WHERE WILL I BE DURING MY VOLUNTEERING IN BILBAO?

All volunteer projects in Bilbao take place in the same city. Depending on where you stay, you can walk or take the metro.  


WHEN CAN I COLLABORATE IN THE VOLUNTEERING IN BILBAO?

You can participate all year round in the programs volunteering in Bilbao:  

  • Teaching underprivileged children
  • Animal rescue center
  • Conservation of the environment

Collaboration from Monday to Friday divided into two shifts 10:30am to 1:30pm or from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

The projects are closed for:

  • Holy Week (Easter)
  • The whole month of August
  • Afternoons in July
  • National holiday, using the latter to get to know better the neighborhoods and towns of Bilbao.

ARRIVAL TO BILBAO

When you arrive at Bilbao Airport  for your volunteering in northern Spain, the local coordinator will welcome you and take you to the volunteers’ accommodation.

You must arrive on a Monday, and depending on what time you arrive, the orientation will be carried out. You will be told in a general way the activities and basic rules of the project. Additionally, you will be oriented about places that you can visit in your free time.

VACCINES

We suggest that you consult with your medical advisor about the recommended vaccines for this region, also in most European countries vaccines are not mandatory .

REQUIREMENTS FOR COVID-19

  • A negative PCR test
  • A filled in Health Declaration Form. It must be filled out before the trip or in the SpTH app. When filling out the form, you will be provided with a QR code that you must present upon arrival in the country. It is only submitted online.

VISA

  • Depending on the country of origin, a visa is not necessary for stays of between 30 and 90 days.
  • Passport in order and valid for at least six months.
  • Not required for EU
  • Economic solvency (depending on the country of origin).

SECURITY IN BILBAO

Bilbao is a very safe place, yet the organization does everything possible to ensure that our volunteers remain safe during their stay in Bilbao.

You should behave as you would if you were moving to a new city anywhere:

  • Be cautious
  • Check your things
  • Ask us questions if you have doubts about something
  • Become familiar with your surroundings
  • You should know where the riskiest places are
  • Use common sense and be aware

Volunteers participating in volunteer programs in Bilbao will live in a volunteer house.

We will also be modifying updates in the homes and other types such as residences, hostels and host families, so we will ask you to get in touch to see what situation the accommodation is in at this time.

Important note: Volunteering and accommodation will only be allowed with a B2 knowledge demonstration of the Spanish language and culture.

WHICH AIRPORT THE VOLUNTEERING IN BILBAO SHOULD ARRIVE AT?

Your flight must go to Bilbao Airport.  It is ideal that you arrive on a Monday, since all the volunteer programs and courses start on Monday of each month.  

HOW DOES THE VOLUNTEERING IN BILBAO TRANSFER TO THE PROGRAM?

The local coordinator will accompany you the first day you start your volunteering in Bilbao , which is just 15 minutes walk from the accommodation.
