Discover the needs of each of our projects and come with the illusion of sharing and living fascinating experiences. Do not miss the experience of volunteering in Spain in the cities of Valencia, Bilbao and Catalonia, you will collaborate in projects while you know some of the main cities of Spain, you can enjoy its beaches, culture, language, and at the same time create positive impacts through your solidarity travel.

Being part of one of the volunteer projects in Spain is a great opportunity to put your knowledge and skills into practice.

ANIMAL SANCTUARY IN CATALONIA

We are looking for the active participation of volunteers to collaborate in this wonderful place. You will be able to help in the first animal sanctuary in Spain. The main objective is to rescue and recover animals that are victims of exploitation. This objective is complemented, in addition, with the promotion of veganism, the fight for the recognition of Animal Rights and the fight against speciesism.

Your daily life will be in a natural space in contact with a great variety of animals. Most of the animals are rescued from situations of oppression and mistreatment, and saved from certain death at the hands of their exploiters. Come, share, help and contribute with your ideas.

In the sanctuary, each inhabitant is cared for according to his or her specific physical and psychological needs and has the opportunity to develop as an individual according to his or her own nature, personality and interests. Here, their rights are respected and they can live safely for the rest of their lives.

The sanctuary project has enabled the rescue, and subsequent housing in its facilities, of more than 200 animals that were facing certain death in slaughterhouses or other extermination centers.

In addition, we carry out important social and awareness-raising work, carrying out educational activities aimed at children and adults that promote the values of respect, justice and equality, extending them to all individuals without distinction of species. To this end, we use specific instruments designed for this purpose, such as talks in educational or occupational centers, street campaigns or the publication of our own didactic material.

Las actividades diarias son:

  • Animal care: feeding, supervision of their welfare needs, cures and treatments, including visits to the veterinarian.
  • Construction and maintenance of facilities
  • Orchard, gardening and forest, including management of firewood for heating in winter.
  • Maintenance of parks (areas where the animals live), both terrestrial and ponds.
  • Logistics: food collection at Mercabarna, collection of donations, shopping, garbage disposal, in some cases driving to the veterinary hospital. Car care and maintenance
  • Household care: cleaning the house and apartments, cooking, washing machines, porch maintenance and taking the dogs out.

The program is open all year round. We collaborate 6 days a week, having one day off. The hours of collaboration are approximately 8 hours spread throughout the day, depending on the needs.

A typical volunteer’s day starts around 7/7.30 (depending on the time of year) and while some prepare breakfast for everyone, others go out to make sure that all the animals are well and do the first check-up of the day.

Later there is a breakfast meeting. At breakfast, the tasks of the day are distributed, which can be domestic tasks (washing dishes, cleaning the house, preparing food, putting and hanging out washing machines) or cleaning the parks and animal areas, construction, maintenance, organization and cleaning of the kitchen where the animals’ food is prepared, cleaning the forest, feeding and medical and therapeutic treatments of the animals, or logistic tasks (driving the car to buy, collecting donations, etc.). The more animal related tasks (feeding and medical treatments) are usually assigned to the long term volunteers.

When the food is ready we meet again (usually between 14.00 and 15.00), there is a break until 17.00. At that time the volunteers get going again with the new tasks that have been assigned to each one until the sun goes down. Dinner is done in a more relaxed way: everyone chooses whether to eat on their own or with the group, and no one is in charge of cooking, everyone eats what is good for them.
