REQUIREMENTS TO DO A VOLUNTEERING IN SPAIN?

  • You must be of legal age to participate in any of the volunteer projects in Spain.
  • You must present a criminal record certificate.
  • Volunteers must be tolerant, enthusiastic and open-minded.
  • Knowledge of English and Spanish for the women’s empowerment program.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment.

SPANISH CLASSES DURING YOUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS IN SPAIN?

You can improve your Spanish by attending centrally located Spanish language classes while volunteering in Spain. We collaborate with a centrally located Spanish academy, where you can take classes from 6 to 10 hours per week.

  • In each volunteer program you can find information on the different options available for the classes.

When you finish your classes you will be able to use the means of transportation, communicate with your fellow volunteers, learn main verbs, pronunciation, most used words, which will allow you to continue volunteer in our destinations in Central America.

Once you finish your classes you can stay in the central bars with the rest of your classmates and enjoy the outdoor terraces in the center of Valencia or Bilbao.


WHERE WILL I BE WHILE VOLUNTEERING IN SPAIN?

All volunteer projects in Spain take place in the city itself. Depending on where you are staying, you can walk or take the subway.


WHEN CAN I COLLABORATE WITH THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS IN SPAIN?

You can participate all year round in the volunteer programs in Spain:

  • Work with immigrant women
  • School reinforcement
  • Child care

We collaborate from Monday to Thursday divided in two shifts from 10:30 am to 1:30 am and from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Projects remain closed for:

  • Holy Week
  • The whole month of August
  • July in the afternoons
  • National holidays, using the latter to get to know better the neighborhoods and towns of the Valencian Community.

ARRIVAL AT YOUR DESTINATION

Upon arrival at Valencia Manises Airport (VLC) for your volunteer placement in Valencia, the local coordinator will welcome you and take you to the accommodation you have chosen.

Depending on your arrival time, you will be given an orientation. You will be told in general about the activities and basic rules of the project. In addition, you will be oriented about places you can visit in your free time.

VACCINES 

We suggest that you consult with your medical advisor about the recommended vaccinations for this region, also in most European countries vaccinations are not mandatory.

REQUIREMENTS BY COVID-19

  • It is not mandatory to submit a PCR.
  • It is mandatory to fill in the Health Declaration Form. It must be filled out before the trip or in the SpTH app. When filling it out you will be provided with a QR that you must present upon arrival in the country. It is only submitted online.

VISA TO ENTER SPAIN

  • Depending on the country of origin, a visa is not required for stays between 30 and 90 days.
  • Passport in order and valid for at least six months.
  • Economic solvency (depending on the country of origin).

SECURITY IN SPAIN

The organization makes every effort to ensure that our volunteers remain safe during their stay in Spain.

You can behave as you would if you were moving to a new city anywhere:

  • Ask questions
  • Learn about your neighborhood
  • Know where the riskiest places are
  • Use common sense and be aware

Volunteers participating in the volunteer programs in Spain have 2 housing options.

  • If you take the Spanish classes, you can stay in a private room in a shared apartment in the neighborhood of Benimaclet.
  • When you only participate as a volunteer without Spanish course, you must find your own accommodation.

Also if your idea is to look for a hostel or hotel accommodation we leave you these details of possible accommodations: Urban Youth Hostel, Center Valencia Youth Hostel, Stay in Vibrant Russafa, Red Nest Hostel Valencia, The River Hostel.

Normally these types of accommodations are located in the center of the capital of Valencia. Where you will also have nearby stores, restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

About food, in Valencia you can eat from 3 euros a plate. You will be able to find many food stores near your accommodation. Valencia is a fairly cheap province of Spain to eat, you will enjoy dishes such as paella, baked rice, Mediterranean salad and all kinds of pasta.

For volunteer programs in Bilbao, you will stay at the volunteer’s house close to the Spanish school and projects.

The contribution for volunteer projects in Spain for a period of 14 days is €180.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE AS VOLUNTEER IN SPAIN?

VALENCIA

Valencia, the third most important city in Spain, after Madrid and Barcelona. Its popular Fallas festival, its historical attractions, its rice fields, its beaches and museums, put Valencia in the sights of many tourists looking for a different kind of trip.

Valencia is a beautiful city with:

  • Incredible neighborhoods full of history
  • Blue flag beaches
  • Dream settings for any wedding album.

CLIMATE

The average temperature regularly averages 17º C (62º F) all year round.

  • May to September you can enjoy the heat and the beach between 25º C and 30º C (77º F and 86º F).
  • August is the warmest month of the year and the coldest month of the year is February.

CURRENCY

The official currency is the Euro. If you do not have euros in your country of origin, you can exchange them before coming to your bank or take out money by credit card or go to a money exchange office.

Valencia is one of the cheapest cities to volunteer in Spain.

FLIGHTS

For your volunteer program in Spain, the flight must have as final destination the airport of Valencia Manises (VLC), where you will be transferred to your chosen accommodation.

  • Flights range between 50€ and 500€ approximately.
  • You can find good flight deals on google flights or skyscanner.

Some airlines of reference for your volunteer in Valencia are: Iberia, KLM, Lufthansa, Ryanair, German Wings and other airlines that you will find in your European or American city.

TOURIST PLACES

In Valencia you will find many places you can visit, here we tell you some that you can not miss if you travel to Spain.

ALBUFERA NATURAL PARK

One of the largest lakes in Spain, with great ecological and cultural importance. It is easy to get there, if you are very adventurous, you just have to take the line 25 of the public buses. This line takes you from the center of Valencia to the Palmar and the Perellonet, only for 1.50 € the route. In the place you can take boat rides on the lake. The other option to visit the park is to take the Albufera Bus touristic.

HISTORY AND ITS NEIGHBORHOODS

If you would like to know a little more about the history of Valencia, we recommend the Old Town where you can find 4 very nice neighborhoods with so much history such as: El Pilar, El Mercat and Sant Francesc.

Nor can you miss the fishing district of the Cabañal where you will arrive with the streetcar or rental bicycles to explore its large white beaches of the Malvarrosa.

If nightlife is your thing, your neighborhood is Ruzafa, full of charming bars, making it one of the trendiest neighborhoods in Europe.

In all the neighborhoods of Valencia you can access with electric bikes, Tram, Bus, Bicycles. In its neighborhoods you will find tapas routes, mini theaters and places for Spanish-English tandems.

EL CARMEN IN VALENCIA

You will find an incredible gastronomic variety, cultural and leisure activities, which make this neighborhood one of the most charming. It is one of the neighborhoods where you can go out to dinner, take a walk and why not party too. Through its ancient streets you can walk through centuries of history, from the Serrano towers, the entrance monument to the city of Valencia, to the Quart towers.

BEACHES IN VALENCIA

From Castellón Valencia and Alicante, all no more than an hour you can see a myriad of beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters, very close to Valencia can go by bike or bus to the beach, you can visit the beaches of Saler and the Albufera de Valencia, are also very famous Beach Alcocebre, Javea Calpe Altea and Benidorm, in Peñiscola Peñiscola beach, besides enjoying you can also see the castle of Pope Luna where fragments of Game of Thrones.

NEAR CITY OF VALENCIA

MOUNTAINS IN VALENCIA

Valencia also has multiple hiking trails large peaks for trekking about two hours, many climbing routes, and the old Turia riverbed where since April is full of activities of all kinds to enjoy every afternoon surrounded by nature in the middle of the city.

WHICH AIRPORT SHOULD I ARRIVE AT FOR A VOLUNTEERING IN SPAIN?

Your flight must be to Spain, either Valenica Airport (VLC) or Bilbao (Bilbo). Ideally you should arrive on a Friday or Saturday, as all volunteer programs start on Mondays of each month.

HOW DO I GET TO THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IN SPAIN?

The local coordinator will accompany you the first day you start volunteer in Spain, which is located just 15 minutes walking distance from your accommodation.

HOW EARLY SHOULD I APPLY TO VOLUNTEERING IN SPAIN?

It is recommended that you apply for your place in the program as soon as possible, as places are limited. Once you are clear about the dates of your volunteer trip, it is important that you fill out the application form to secure your place in the program.

CAN I VOLUNTEER IN SPAIN WITH FRIENDS OR FAMILY?

Of course, every help and contribution is welcome. You can volunteer with friends, families, student groups, volunteer with your colleagues or do your university internship.
